The store in Street has sponsored one of its optical assistants to study for a Bachelor of Science degree in Optometry at Plymouth University.
Tahliya Hankins, aged 18, first joined the team at Street in 2015 as Saturday staff and developed a real passion for Optometry. After completing her A-levels she enrolled on the three-year course at Plymouth University, which started last month. Following her studies she’ll return to Specsavers in Street for a pre-registration year, before finally being qualified as an Optometrist.
A word from the store director
‘Optometrists are highly skilled. Not only do they study for three years as part of an optometry degree, but they must complete a final year of training for their pre-registration’, said Colin Shearer, store director. ‘We’re so pleased to support Tahliya by sponsoring her studies and look forward to when she returns in three years’ time.’
