MacMillan Cancer Support and the West Mendip Hospital League of Friends will be benefiting from the efforts of staff from Specsavers in Street.
The team are holding a week-long event from Sunday 28 August, starting with a sponsored walk of more than 10 miles to Specsavers in neighbouring Wells.
Gearing up for fundraising
Store director Colin Shearer is delighted to be putting on this event: ‘MacMillan supports thousands of people across the country, and the League of Friends is a great local charity that we are very keen to support. There will be lots going on throughout the week, so we are all gearing up to raise as much money as we can.’
Members of staff are inviting customers and passers-by to join in with fundraising activities throughout the week which will include a children’s colouring competition and a ‘guess the name of the bear’ game.
Colin added: ‘Our customers have always shown a willingness to get involved with charitable activities, so we’re looking forward to welcoming many of them into the store from Sunday to get stuck in and raise some essential funds.’
MacMillan Cancer Support is a UK charity that provides practical, medical and financial support to those affected by cancer, while the Somerset based West Mendip Hospital League of Friends offers financial support and training services to staff and patients of the West Mendip Hospital.
