Dementia Awareness Week starts May 15th, and the team at Specasvers in Strand are at hand to better understand the needs of customers suffering from dementia having completed their Dementia Friends training.
Alzheimer's Society initiative
The initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society is a comprehensive training covering all aspects of dementia and discusses how it affects people in different ways.
With particular relevance to Specsavers it also describes how senses can be affected, including sight and hearing.
Linay Khambhaita, store director of Specsavers in Strand says: Being dementia aware is an extremely positive development for our team and our offering to customers.
'By understanding dementia better, it has really opened my eyes to how at Specsavers, when performing our daily duties, we can all take a little time to support and care.’
To recognise a dementia friend in store look out for staff wearing a badge on their uniforms to indicate their increased level of dementia awareness to customers.
