Specsavers has opened its doors in Straiton, creating eight new jobs and marking a £280k investment in the area.
A first in Scotland Located within the Straiton Superstore, this is the first Specsavers store to open in a Sainsbury’s in Scotland and marks the expansion of eye care services at another convenient location for local people.
Cumulatively, store directors Craig Daker, Ian Hobson and the team have worked in the optical industry for almost 90 years and are thrilled to be bringing first class eye care and audiology services to Straiton.

Store director Craig said: ‘We’re very proud to be embarking upon this exciting new venture. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us and we believe that the store will be a great addition to the town.
‘We are committed to providing the residents of Straiton with the best optical and hearing services available, with over 90 appointments available per week and an extensive range of our own and designer styles and collections.
‘The team is passionate and enthusiastic about developing a local business and we look forward to becoming a big part of the Straiton community.’
The state-of-the-art store has three test rooms, a dedicated contact lens department and a soundproof audiology room with the latest in audiology technology.
The store is one of only two stores in Edinburgh to offer customers the opportunity to have an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan. It is used for a variety of functions, including screening and management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
The store will host an official launch party on Saturday 29 September 2018.
