The Met Office has been warning residents of East Anglia that the current pollen count is expected to be ‘very high’ this summer. But how can hay fever affect our eye health?
Take caution when rubbing your eyes
Allergies such as hay fever can cause itching and irritation of the eyes causing sufferers to rub their eyes excessively. This rubbing can cause damage to the cornea and in extreme cases can induce astigmatism.
To help with itchiness and irritation we are able to offer ocular lubricants in the form of eye-drops or gels, as well as antihistamine and anti-inflammatory eye-drops.
Book an eye test if you are affected
If your symptoms are so severe that you would benefit from being examined by an eye specialist, we are able to arrange this for you.
If you think you could be suffering from any of these symptoms, please don’t hesitate to book an appointment with us today.
