Brierley Hill resident Audrey Dipple has been selected as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Audrey, aged 60, was ‘gobsmacked’ to hear that she had been chosen from thousands of other specs wearers to reach the semi-final stage of the national competition.
Taking pride in glasses
Stourbridge-born Audrey has worn glasses for the last 20 years, and takes pride in wearing specs. She commented: ‘These days specs are a desirable accessory and I for one love wearing them – they look fab on anyone.’
She also praised the competition, saying that it ‘is a great way to recognise people that look good in their specs,’ and added that she’s ‘over the moon to make it this far.’
On a visit to her local Specsavers store in Stourbridge, Audrey received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 eyewear voucher to mark her achievement. She’s now in with a chance to win £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1,000.
A fabulous specs wearing ambassador
Store director Jason Bridgewater commented: ‘We’re thrilled for Audrey – she’s a fabulous specs wearing ambassador and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed she makes it through to the final.’
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category, Audrey could meet Kimberly and a host of other stars at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and 60+. Each age category winner will win a VIP makeover and a trip to London for the awards evening, where one overall winner will take home the ultimate prize.
