Specsavers in St Andrews has announced a renewed partnership with St Andrews Chorus for 2016.
Established in 1963, the St Andrews Chorus has gone on to become Scotland’s largest choral society with 180 members participating in their latest concert. The choir comprises people of all ages and abilities and welcomes new members every year.
The partnership between the choir and the local opticians has been in place for almost 10 years and provides monetary support for the day to day running of the group.
Specsavers help with the preparations
Rehearsals are well underway for the choral society’s next performance at Younger Hall in April. The chorus including two professional soloists, soprano Megan Read and baritone Ben McAteer will be accompanied by the Heisenberg Ensemble under the baton of Michael Downes. They hope to entertain the audience by performing works such as Berlioz Tristia and Brahms German Requiem which will be sung entirely in German.
As part of their preparations, members of the choir were invited to Specsavers St Andrews to have their eyes and ears checked, to ensure they will be singing in the perfect pitch to their 700 strong audience this spring.
Ross Scanlon, store manager of Specsavers in St Andrews, says: ‘We are always keen to support local organisations and we are very proud of our affiliation with the St Andrews Chorus.
‘Several members of the choir are regular customers with us and it was great to welcome some of the performers in store to ensure they are in tip top singing condition for their upcoming concert. We wish them all the best in their rehearsals and hope the community comes together to support such a great organisation.’
Sponsors are fundamental
Richard Burns, Vice President of St Andrews Chorus, said: ‘I am so pleased that the partnership with our local Specsavers is continuing for another year.
‘The choral society has grown vastly since its early beginnings and we rely on support from our sponsors as it is fundamental to the running of our group.’
The St Andrews Chorus will perform at Younger Hall, North Street St Andrews on Saturday April 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Byre Box Office or can be purchased from members of the chorus.
