Married couple Phil and Caroline Shelton recently started new careers with an opticians on South Street. The duo have proved it is happy families in Specsavers as they both settle into a new career with progression potential in their 40s.
Phil, who joined Specsavers St Andrews as store manager in January, previously worked as a regional manager for various companies which often involved travelling long distances. He was keen to find a new fulfilling career and settle in one location and Specsavers was ideal for this.
A month later, Phil’s wife Caroline joined as an optical assistant after years of experience in customer-facing roles within retail and hospitality.
Perfect fit for Specsavers
Julia Campbell, store director at Specsavers St Andrews, said: ‘Both Phil and Caroline had no prior experience in optics but their combined retail, management and customer service experience made them a perfect fit for our store.’
Phil said: ‘Caroline and I had both wanted something more from our working lives before it was too late, but we couldn’t afford to take time out from our previous jobs to study or retrain.
‘It’s lovely to know that Specsavers doesn’t typecast; it gives anyone the opportunity to broaden their horizons. It’s a fast-moving business but we’ve got an exceptional team here and they all work really hard.’
