Specsavers in Stamford has collected a spec-tacular total of more than 2000 pairs of glasses to help raise funds for international charity Vision Aid Overseas.
The store has been collecting old glasses on behalf of the charity, that raises money by recycling the glasses in an environmentally friendly way, since May 2014. Vision Aid Overseas delivers eyecare and a sustainable supply of glasses at an extremely low cost to some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
Neil Macdonald, store director at Specsavers in Stamford, says: ‘We’ve been delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity of local people, 2000 specs is an unprecedented total. It will go a long way to helping many people around the world who are disadvantaged by poor vision.
‘We’re going to continue collecting glasses so would urge local people to keep dropping them in when they have an old pair to recycle. And because the appeal for glasses has gone so well, we’re now collecting old hearing aids for the Sound Seekers charity too!’
