The team at an optician in St Albans welcomed Saracens and England rugby player, Chris Ashton into the store to fundraise for Red Nose Day. Chris signed autographs, had photos taken and chatted to visitors to the store. The Mayor of St Albans also made an appearance and a raffle raised over £380 while comedy glasses sales have raised over £200.

Lewis Carroll, store director of Specsavers St Albans, said: ‘The whole of St Albans came together to raise money for Comic Relief and we’re thrilled to say that over £580 has already been raised. We had Chris down, along with the Mayor and local residents - it was a fantastic day. We’re all big rugby fans, so it was great to have Chris come and support us. I’d also like to thank the girls at Champneys day spa for donating their time to wax my legs for charity!’

Customers were able to win a signed pair of boots, a signed rugby shirt or a signed rugby ball for a donation of £1 to Comic Relief.
