A local Surrey boy has his sights set on global success after being selected to represent Great Britain in the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in Levallois, France, later this month.
Team GB selection
Finlay Gray, 11, from Staines, was selected for Team GB following an extremely successful year with Spelthorne Gymnastics club, in which he’s won the title of 11-12 year old National Tumbling Champion.
While Finlay may have visions of glory, it was his actual vision that almost stood in the way of his gymnastics hopes.
The keen gymnast, who requires a strong prescription to correct his sight, had found his glasses proved problematic when training and competing in gymnastic events. Last year, at only ten years old, he decided to visit Specsavers for a contact lens consultation.
Contact lenses allow him to train
Sonal Shah, optometrist at Specsavers in Staines says: ‘We know it can sometimes be a little daunting for young people to start wearing contact lenses.
‘When Finlay came to us we could see how important it was for him to find an alternative to glasses so, as with all new contact lens wearers, we tried to make the process as smooth as possible. It’s incredibly rewarding to see first-hand how Finlay has benefitted from wearing contact lenses and all of us at the store would like to wish him the very best the World Championships.’
