Specsavers in Solihull were proud to sponsor this year’s Community Involvement Award at the fifth annual Solihull Civic Honours ceremony.

The winner of the category, June Williams, received her award from the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Glenis Slater.

June has been running coffee mornings at Knowle Village Hall for 28 years, providing a place for people who live alone to meet, chat, and make new friends over tea and cake.

Specsavers store director, Brad Parkes said: ‘It’s been a pleasure to sponsor the Community Involvement Award, and we had a difficult decision to make with a number of excellent entries. However we all agreed that Mrs Williams was a very worthy winner who is dedicated to helping others, and we are delighted to honour her contribution to the community.’

Residents of the borough were invited to nominate their unsung heroes whose contribution has made the community a better place. The judging panel of officers, councillors and representatives from community groups and sponsors selected this year’s winners.
