Eleven paddlers, plus a drummer, were part of the successful crew racing in Chinese-style Dragon Boats over a 250-metre course to raise vital funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Leading the team was Chloe Gilliam, hearing director at Specsavers in Sittingbourne, who, together with her team, has pledged to raise £2000 for the charity over the next couple of months.

A word from Chloe

Chloe said: ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People do some really important work, and we are delighted to have been able to help.

‘The race was extremely fun and we all really enjoyed it! It’s definitely an unusual way to raise funds, but we are glad we participated and look forward to organising even more activities in support of Hearing Dogs.’

Success of previous fundraisers

Last year’s Dragon Boat Race event raised over £107,000 for 50 different charities, with more than 1,000 people taking part. Since the event began in 1998, over £2.7 million has been raised for more than 400 local, national and international charities.
