A man from Sidcup has seen off competition from thousands of specs wearers in the South East to be named a regional finalist in the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
20-year-old Greg Joy was announced as a finalist in the annual Specsavers competition and now stands a chance of attending the grand final in London in October, where hopefuls will compete for the chance to take home the top title, £10,000, a luxury holiday in the Bahamas and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
Greg’s local Specsavers store in Sidcup celebrated his success in the competition by presenting her with a £150 glasses voucher, a bottle of Champagne and a certificate.
Sports enthusiast Greg says: ‘I was really surprised to get the call to tell me I had been selected as a regional finalist in the competition. When I entered I never imagined I would get this far.’
A word from the store director
Store director of Specsavers in Sidcup, Ebahi Demi-Ejegi, adds: ‘A huge congratulations to Greg on his progression in the competition. The store wishes him the best of luck with the next stage of the competition – It would be lovely to see someone from our area take home the coveted title of Spectacle Wearer of the Year.’
More about the competition
The Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition was launched by Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh earlier this year. Glasses wearers were encouraged by Specsavers stores across the country to submit a picture of themselves in their best pair of specs.
Four age category finalists: 16-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60+, a Facebook favourite voted for by the public and Ireland’s winner will attend the awards at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 7 October. All will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
The ultimate Spectacle Wearer of the Year winner will receive £10,000, plus a week’s holiday for two in the Bahamas courtesy of the Grand Lucayan Beach & Golf Resort and a wardrobe of specs to suit every style.
