Specsavers opticians in Saffron Waldon will donate over 200 pairs of customers' used and unwanted glasses collected to global sight charity Vision Aid Overseas.
Recycled glasses fund eye clinics in Africa
The glasses recycling initiative will help improve eye care in developing countries including Zambia. The reusable material from the recycled glasses will be sold, and those proceeds will be donated to support the charity’s work in Africa.
Store director, Suba Thiara, said: ‘Eyecare is often taken for granted in the UK on account of the robust eye care services available. Unfortunately in many of the developing countries this is not the case with many people being seriously affected as a result of poor vision.
Children without glasses miss out
Without eye care, children who need glasses miss out on valuable education, parents cannot work to support their families and some grandparents simply do not have the ability to see their grandchildren.
Save people's sight
Suba continues: ‘By donating glasses for Vision Aid Overseas we can help the charity in its mission to help save the sight of those less fortunate then ourselves.’
