The team at Ripley teamed up with the Ripley and Heanor News to run a spectacular photographic competition themed around the hidden aspects of the town.

The Life Through a Lens competition had a simple brief designed to stretched entrants’ creativity. With a theme of ‘Remarkable Ripley, Tom Meakin bagged himself the top prize - a Nikon SLR camera – with his still of the Duchess of Sutherland at Butterley Station.

The runner up, Leah Caddick won a Specsavers voucher worth £125 for her photo of geese standing in a lake.

‘We wanted to give local people the chance to showcase their photography,’ said store director Kuldip Dosanjh. ‘We were not looking for the “usual” Ripley landmarks, but wanted to uncover some hidden aspects of the town that really depict its soul, and Tom and Leah did just that.
