Gery Learmont, retail director at Specsavers in Richmond, is the face of a new national TV advert which launched on screened on Monday 13 July.
Making his debut TV appearance in front of an audience of millions, Gery is playing a key role in Specsavers’ biggest hearing campaign to date. In the 30 second ad for the UK’s number one high street hearing aid provider, Gery champions Hearcare and promotes the Specsavers same-day test and fit service.
The Cumbernauld-born star has never even starred in a school play, but found himself the face of Hearcare after impressing the Specsavers team with a stunning screen test.
A word from the star of the new advert
Gery said: ‘I was shocked when the team approached me to send some test shots ahead of selection for this campaign. I had to send a selection of close up hand shots and sound bites of me speaking on camera. After I was selected things started moving pretty quickly and I was sworn to secrecy.
'As I have never done anything like this before I had a half-hour session with an acting coach to go over the basics. My coach told me I was a real natural which gave me a confidence boost ahead of filming. The day before filming I had a meeting with the wardrobe department, which was surreal. We had a full day of filming in a mock shop based at Specsavers’ head office and I never really appreciated how long it can take to film such a short advert. It was a lot of fun being involved and the finished product really shows viewers what Specsavers is all about. I think we’ve created something we can be proud of and which raises awareness of vital hearing services in the community.’
