10 youngsters from an area still affected by the Chernobyl disaster visited Specsavers in Redruth to receive free eye examinations and glasses.

The children live near Chernobyl, where the effects of the nuclear disaster are still being felt 25 years later.

Welcome them back

Lucy Eva, store director of Specsavers in Redruth, says: ‘We have invited the children to the store on many occasions and we welcome them back with open arms.

Eye examinations

‘Regular eye examinations are an important part of a healthcare routine and access to eyecare is not available for the children in their home town. The radiation they’re subjected to increases the chances of contracting illnesses such as cataracts which would go undetected without an eye examination.’

The visit took place as part of the children’s visit to the area and all treatment by Specsavers was completely free of charge.
