Kicking off the partnership during National Eye Health Week
September marked National Eye Health Week; a week where customers were encouraged to put their eye health top of their agenda.
So it made sense to invite two players in - Ryan Hall and Chris Haigh - to learn about eye health and hear first-hand the shocking statistic that people put the wellbeing of their boiler ahead of their own sight.
Shocking new findings from new report
A new report published by charity Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and Specsavers showed that only 50% of UK adults last had their eyes tested more than a year ago or never.
Optical director Nick Bradshaw said: ‘Almost six million people in the UK currently live with sight-threatening conditions yet 25% of people are not having an eye test every two years which is recommended by the College of Optometrists. The extent of the problem means that nearly every family in Britain is touched by sight problems in some way.’
Footballer Ryan was surprised by the report’s findings. He said: ‘Nick explained that around one in five people will live with sight loss at some point in their life but at least half of cases could be avoidable if treated early.'
Chris adds: ‘I didn’t realise that more than 80% of people are not aware that an optician can spot the early signs of one of the leading causes of death in the UK - cardiovascular disease.’
