Specsavers in Shinfield Road would like to thank its generous customers after the store collected hundreds of pairs of glasses for optical charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO).
The store issued an appeal for customers to donate their unwanted specs and were overwhelmed by the response from customers.
VAO recycles the glasses and uses the money made from selling the reusable materials to fund its charity work in developing countries. This includes giving people much-needed eye tests and treatment, and training up local optometrists.
Specsavers Shinfield Road store director Sanjeev Vara says: ‘In this country we can easily access professional eyecare on the high street and it’s something we all take for granted. In the developing world it’s a very different story and for that reason it is important we do what we can to improve eye health elsewhere.
‘I would like to thank our customers for donating such a vast number of glasses. Our donation box has been overflowing and it’s heart-warming to know that these donations will change people’s lives.’
