Reading residents will be forgiven for thinking they have stepped into a parallel universe this weekend when Specsavers steps back in time to celebrate their 30th anniversary and raise funds for Red Cross AED (Automated External Defibrillators).

On Saturday 11 July, a replica of the iconic DeLorean time machine, which featured in the Back to the Future film trilogy, will be parked outside of Specsavers to mark the milestone event.

Staff from the store will also be playing host to a dance troupe who will perform popular songs from the 1980s – the decade when the store first open its doors. Party bags full of treats will also be handed out to the public.

Don Watts, store director, said: ‘We wanted to pay homage to the year when the store first opened. What better way than to have such a memorable piece of movie history - Marty McFly and Doc Brown’s chosen form of transport - right outside of our store. We never do things by halves here at Reading and we hope that local residents and customers will support us on the day.

The team and I are really excited to be raising funds for Red Cross AED’s cause too. Prompt defibrillation can drastically improve survival rates, and we are honoured to donate what we can to support such a great initiative.’
