The new year brings new thoughts of warmer climates and dreams of lounging on the beach. Others may decide to head to the slopes for some winter sun. But if you are planning to jet set it’s important to ensure you and your family’s eyesight is properly protected from UV rays. Specsavers stores across Essex are on-hand to offer advice.
The importance of UV protection
Opticians across Essex are raising awareness of the danger winter sun can pose not only to our skin, but our eyes too.
Specsavers teams are calling on all families to ensure that their eyes are properly protected from sun damage and are urging anyone who is heading off on a sunny holiday to check their sunglasses to make sure they are fully protected against UV rays.
• Sunglasses should be marked UV 400 to provide sufficient protection from sun damage
• The larger the lens, the more protection they’ll give your eyes as there’s less chance that light will filter in through the sides
• If you are taking prescription sunglasses on holiday, take your optician's phone number with you so that if they break your prescription can be sent to an optician near you so that you can get new ones
Staff at your local store can offer help and advice if you are unsure as to the level of protection they need.
