Specsavers in Poole is reminding customers that they are a dementia friendly store following Dementia Awareness Week this month (15 May).

Supporting those living with dementia

Many colleagues at the store are Dementia Friends.  This means they have received training and are able to assist with customers living with dementia.

A dementia friend is identified by a badge, meaning that a customer - or a relative of a customer - can be assured that their special requirements are catered for.  As well as being aware of the condition, a dementia friend is empathetic to the challenges faced when living with dementia - particularly heightened senses including issues with sight and vision.

Says director Tim Bennett

'As a team, we have worked closely with the Poole Dementia Action Group over the last three years to establish our store as dementia friendly. The condition is something we can all closely relate to. Two members of our team have lost close family members to dementia in the past 3 months.

'As a business, it's paramount to be ensure our customer service is second to none and that includes assisting the community with their varying needs and challenges.'
