A Specsavers Poole staff member has qualified as a contact lens optician in under a year – an accomplishment that has not been achieved by anyone in the UK for over five years.

A rare achievement

The result makes Bryony Hamilton (29), a dispensing optician at the store, one of the country’s top students. Usually students complete the contact lens optician course, which is made up of theory and practical modules, in two or three years.

Bryony has now become the first full-time contact lens optician in the Poole Specsavers store.

Paul Carroll, Specsavers’ director of professional services said: ‘Bryony has achieved something that is very rare. I know how hard Bryony must have worked to complete the course in such a short period of time – and it is also a reflection of the amount of support she must have received from the team at Specsavers in Poole.’

Landmark qualification

Anna Foden, (32), also a dispensing optician in Poole Specsavers, is completing the course over two years and will join Bryony as the store’s second contact lens optician next year.

Tim Bennett, director, said: ‘We are all so proud of Bryony; she is flying the flag for Specsavers in Poole. This is a landmark qualification and reflects the achievements of the growing business.’

Specsavers Poole employs over 45 staff and is a community-based and focussed optician and hearing centre for adults and children alike, including glasses, contact lenses and hearing tests.
