A local voluntary group created to restore and maintain a Griffithstown park has been kitted out with 45 branded polo shirts thanks to a donation from a local opticians.
Specsavers in Pontypool donated the shirts to the ‘Friends of Fishponds Park’, a community group established three years ago following concerns that the area – also known as Panteg Park - was not being maintained to a high enough standard.
Volunteers meet for two hours a week to ensure hedges, flowerbeds and the grass at the park are tended to and helped with the renovation of the park’s fountain.
The shirts, worth a total of more than £500, are branded with both the group’s logo as well as Specsavers’.
Continuing great work
Anna Davies, store director at Specsavers Pontypool, says: ‘The Friends of Fishponds Park has worked wonders transforming the park into a focal point of the community. At Specsavers, we are always keen to support local initiatives and do what we can, and this is a perfect example of that.
‘We hope the new shirts will help locals spot the volunteers as they continue their great work, and I look forward to hearing about the future projects the group has for the area.’
