To mark National Road Safety Week, Specsavers in Pocklington has pledged to keep local school children safe by donating high visibility vests to three local primary schools.

Helping three local schools

Specsavers in Pocklington has presented 200 vests to three village schools: Barmby Moor School, Melbourne Community Primary School and Wilberfoss Primary School. The donation is part of an initiative set up by Specsavers to increase the safety of local children, when out and about in the local community.

Robert Winlow, store director at Pocklington Specsavers, comments: ‘At this time of year with the dark mornings and nights, combined with the winter weather, it can be difficult for motorists to see pedestrians and dusk is particularly hazardous when the children are walking home from school.

‘We wanted to help increase the safety of school children in the Pocklington area by offering local schools high-visibility vests so they can be better seen by motorists when their learning takes them out into the community, or when they’re out on school trips.

‘Our safety initiative also aims to raise awareness of the free glasses and eye tests we offer to anyone under the age of 16. It is important to make sure that children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem in the early stages of development could lead to something more severe in the long term.’
