The winner of the Pocklington ‘Mum of the Year’ accolade has been announced as Sarah Smales, chosen because of a heartfelt letter written by daughter Maddie Smales, aged eight.
Very caring person
The competition, launched by Pocklington Specsavers, saw local children encouraged to nominate their Mum for a chance to win the Pocklington ‘Mum of the Year’ accolade, ahead of Mother’s Day on 30 March. Maddie impressed judges with a beautifully written letter, outlining how her Mum Sarah is ‘the best and a very caring person, who has a really funny laugh and who is a very unique and glam mum!’
Pocklington’s Mum of the Year, Sarah Smales, says: ‘This is such a lovely surprise as I was so happy when Maddie said she had entered me into the competition. I’m certainly looking forward to enjoying my prize.’
Free glasses and hair makeover
The store received more than 30 admirable letters from children nominating their mothers, to be in with the chance of winning some fantastic prizes, including a free pair of design glasses from Specsavers and a complimentary wash, cut and blowdry from Chameleon Hair Design.
Robert Winlow, at Pocklington Specsavers, comments: ‘Maddie’s letter was so touching and wonderfully written. She captured our hearts and did a wonderful job of portraying just how much her mother, Sarah, means to her.’
