The team at Specsavers in Petersfield is proud to announce their support of Liphook Bowling Club.
Store directors, Jo Cox and Shilpan Shah have donated £900 to help support the club with its largest financial outlay being the ongoing maintenance of their large lawn mower. Says Jo Cox: 'Our business focuses on health, so it makes complete sense for us to support causes in our own community that encourage wellbeing and active, healthy lifestyles.'
Having a go
To kick start the sponsorship, the Liphook Bowling team invited Specsavers colleagues to their green on 13 August for a lesson and friendly match. It gave employees the chance to see first hand how Bowls is very much an up and coming game.
The team heard how bowls is not a game exclusively for older people. It is pretty active with players likely to be on their feet for around two and a half hours, walking up and down the green 18 to 21 times, or more. Players will also need to bend up and down anywhere between 36 to 84 times when delivering the bowl. The club boasts players of all ages and has a fantastic qualified coach on-hand to guide new people into the game.
Fun had by all
Jo Cox says: 'We had a great time learning about bowls and meeting the club's members, who were very welcoming (and patient with us). Going forward, we look forward to going back to the club shortly to talk about all the new innovations available at our store. We still find that misplaced perceptions can be a barrier to visiting us, particularly with hearing. It will be a great opportunity for us to challenge these views, show how small and effective our hearing aids are, and to educate attendees on preventable sight loss conditions that can be managed with early detection.’
