Peterlee eyecare experts are championing a charitable specs recycling appeal in store.
The team from Specsavers in Peterlee, together with Specsavers stores across the North East, collected and donated more than 44,000 pairs of old and unwanted glasses to charity Vision Aid Overseas last year.
Now, team Peterlee are once again calling for donations of old and unwanted glasses for their special collection box in store.
A word from the store director
Eric Thompson, store director at Specsavers in Peterlee, said: ‘Our Vision Aid Overseas appeal has always been very popular with local residents.
‘By renewing our appeal, we hope to give donations an extra boost as people start to think about tackling the spring clean. Rather than have them gather dust at home, just pop your unwanted specs in our collection box in store.
‘It’s such a simple initiative but it can really make a positive change in people’s lives.’
More about the charity
Vision Aid Overseas is an international charity dedicated to fighting poverty by transforming access to eyecare in developing countries. After collecting specs through donations, the charity recycles them in an environmentally-friendly way, and the income generated from the recycling is used to support its programmes overseas.
