Opticians and audiologists in Peterborough have raised an amazing £360 for Cancer Research UK by hosting their own special Bake Off event last month.
Team members from Specsavers Peterborough - Bridge Street got out their rolling pins and weighing scales to create a variety of cakes for a competition held at the store on 22 February. The keen bakers paid £2 to enter the competition, with the sweet and savoury cakes being sold on to staff members and customers.
All entries were tasted and judged by a representative from local dessert lounge shop Tamu, with the first- and second-placed bakers receiving a prize of luxury Easter eggs.
The event has so far raised £200 in donations for Cancer Research UK, while directors from the Specsavers Peterborough also bought everyone who attended a unity band to mark World Cancer Day on 4 February, raising a further £160.
A word from the store director
Steve Emmingham, store director at Specsavers Peterborough - Bridge Street, said: ‘Cancer Research is a charity close to our heart as four members of our team have parents with terminal cancer, and we wanted to do something positive to support them. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who supported the event and donated to the cause.’
