Susan Weir from Perth has beaten off competition from thousands of other specs wearers to be named as a regional semi-finalist in the Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Susan, a branch manager, could scoop £10,000 if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 22nd annual awards hosted by Specsavers in London.
One of just ten regional semi-finalists from across Scotland, Susan entered the competition after seeing an advert online.
Susan said: ‘I thought it would be fun to enter as soon as I saw the competition advertised, so I uploaded my selfie not thinking I would be selected.
‘I’ve only been wearing glasses for two years, but I knew I really wanted a stand-out pair so selected these fabulous white Max & Co ones.
‘Anyone who is a bit reluctant to wear glasses should just go for it. There are so many great frames and styles out there at the moment, so there’s always a lot to choose from at Specsavers.’
Proud specs wearers from every corner of the UK have entered the competition to be in with a chance of winning fantastic prizes and be crowned Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2017.
Susan was invited to her local Specsavers store in Perth by store director Sharon Philip who presented her with a bottle of champagne, certificate and a £150 glasses voucher to mark her achievement.
Sharon said: ‘We’re very proud that we have a regional finalist from Perth this year. Susan has done incredibly well - to get to the regional finals is a fantastic achievement,’ says Sharon.
‘It was a pleasure to meet her in store and to present her with her prizes. I’m sure that regardless what happens in the next stage of the competition, Susan will continue to wear her glasses with confidence.’
Now in its 22nd year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £400,000 to date.
