Staff are celebrating after receiving recognition for their role as a local employer.
The Specsavers store located on Victoria Street received the Platinum Employer award after demonstrating a track record in developing career opportunities for employees.
A word from the store
Karen Stone and Winnie Maina, directors at Specsavers Paignton, said: ‘We are delighted and proud to receive this accolade and we will continue to build on the skills of all our staff. At present we have 12 people in optics, with one member of staff training to be an audiology assistant.
'We also have a member of staff who is at college studying an access course, which will allow her to go to Plymouth University in September to study optometry. With future opportunities in mind, we have also just taken on a sixth form student as a Saturday member of staff who wants to train to become an optician eventually.’
Investing in the future
The Platinum Employer accreditation measures five benchmarks of the employee experience, including talent management, recruitment and induction, and performance management and reward.
Specsavers’ regional relationship manager, Claire Richardson, said: ‘This is an amazing achievement for the store and their directors. Not only have Karen and Winnie only been in their roles for 12 months, they have also managed to modernise the store and work hard to provide opportunities for members of staff, many of whom have been with the store for many years.’
The Platinum Employer scheme is an exciting addition to Specsavers’ extensive portfolio of training and development programmes, aimed at helping staff to benefit from the opportunity of a full-career journey from entry-level to store owner.
