Abby Jobson from Specsavers Oxford completed the Marathon in a Month Challenge for Freddie’s Future, helping to raise £560 for the Bone Cancer Trust.
The store director and optometrist decided to lace up her running shoes and take on the challenge in support of six-year-old Freddie Croft, her young son’s best friend who has a rare form of bone cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma. She started on Sunday 6 September, completing the challenge over the next 30 days.
‘I’m not a runner so it was tough,’ said Abby. ‘But I completed 27 miles in the end so I was thrilled. It was nice to have some late summer sun and that definitely helped when I was out! I’m extremely grateful to everyone that sponsored me – charities have had a tough time this year with so many fundraising events cancelled.
‘Freddie was diagnosed back in November 2019 and has undergone aggressive chemo and radiotherapy which has seen him spend long stints in hospital. His family are keen to help raise awareness, as well as funds so that the Bone Cancer Trust can continue to help others like him. I’m pleased that I’ve been able to support their efforts.’
