Specsavers in Old Swan has thanked customers for their generous donations of 1,000 of their old glasses as part of Specsavers charity campaign to help people in Africa be able to see clearer.
For more than 30 years, Vision Aid Overseas has assisted in many developing countries to help improve people’s sight. The charity’s mission has always been to provide those living in poverty the means to have affordable glasses and eye care.
Recycling old specs
The glasses are recycled after they’ve been collected and the money raised is used to fund making optician services available in poorer countries. Working with VAO, shoppers and staff have generously donated a record-breaking amount of glasses.
A word from the store director
Paul Stanway, store director at Old Swan, said: ‘2017 saw a very successful campaign and that’s thanks to our kind and generous customers and staff. Every single donation means so much.
‘We’re fortunate here in the UK that we have eye care services so easily available to us, but sadly others are not as lucky. The donations in store and the work done with Vision Aid Overseas is so important as it truly can change people’s lives in such a positive way.’
