An Okehampton woman has been chosen from thousands of proud glasses wearers as a finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Phoebe Curtis, aged 19, an Okehampton customer could follow in the footsteps of last year’s Award winner, Love Island hunk Alex Miller, winning £10,000 and the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
A wonderful surprise
Phoebe joined staff and store manager Amanda Crockett at her local Specsavers store to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £125 glasses voucher.
Phoebe Curtis, regional finalist said: ‘I am so happy to make it through as a regional finalist. I have been wearing my glasses virtually my entire life and although I have tried contact lenses I didn’t like how I looked without glasses. Also when I was young I thought that it was uncool to wear glasses but now I love them’.
A word from the store
Amanda Crockett, Okehampton store manager said: ‘We are delighted for Phoebe and as she has been wearing glasses from such a young age we think she makes a great ambassador for the competition and for young people wearing glasses. We wish her luck and hope she makes it through to the final’.
The awards were launched by Steps star Claire Richards earlier this year. If Phoebe triumphs in her age category, she will meet Claire and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony in London.
