Specsavers in Oban has raised a spectacular £1,000 for fundraising group Friends of Oban Community Play Park.
The opticians staged a fashion show to celebrate its 10th birthday at the community-owned Oban Phoenix Cinema, which saw local models of all ages strut their stuff on the catwalk.
Local businesses lent their support
Local businesses from across Oban also lent their support by providing stylish clothing and accessories for the models and prepping them for their big appearance with glamourous hair and make-up.
Guests on the night were also treated to live performances from local musical theatre group Spotlight and singer Lora Macleod.
All proceeds from admission and raffle tickets were donated to Friends of Oban Community Play Park, which aims to raise £400,000 to create an all-inclusive play and recreation space beside Atlantis Community Leisure.
A huge thank you
Karen MacDonald, assistant manager at the store, helped organise the fashion fundraiser.
She said: ‘I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the people who gave their time and services including Phoenix Cinema and its staff, Leanne Rush at Spruce for the gorgeous hairstyles and all her help in the run-up to the event, Lynne Ann Pollitt for make-up, Wullie Rodger for photography and James Gray for videography.
‘The clothing and accessories were kindly lent to us by Chalmers, M&Co, Penelope Pitstop, Precious Things, Gem Box and Beknix Jewellery.’
A real feeling of community spirit
Ken Macdonald, store director at Specsavers in Oban, said: ‘It was a fantastic night with a real feeling of community spirit in the air. In terms of turnout and generosity, we couldn’t have asked for anything better.
‘Locally, everyone is really keen to see a space for children around Oban to play and have fun and it was lovely to see everyone come together in support of a common cause.'
