Employees from both Nottingham and West Bridgford stores ran the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham on Sunday 28 September.
On your marks, get set...
Customer service manager Luke Smith from the Nottingham store joined optical assistants Samantha Randall and Rebecca Hastings from the West Bridgford store to run the Robin Hood half marathon, whereas general manager Nicole Thacker and optical assistant Evie Barbuskaite from the Nottingham store ran the full 26.2 mile course through the town centre and surrounding areas.
14 challenges for 2014
The group of five are taking part in this mammoth task as part of a mission the stores have set to tackle; 14 challenges to complete for 2014. Employees have to participate in sporting events that cover the equivalent distance to 14 full marathons (366.8 miles) by the end of 2014, hoping to reach their collective target of £2,000 for a variety of charities, including British Red Cross and Cancer Research.
‘It’s fantastic to see staff from both stores getting involved’
‘The stores completed a similar challenge last year, where we took part in sporting activities that covered the distance of 2013km over the course of the year. It’s fantastic to see staff from both stores getting involved; it boosts team morale and raises money for some fantastic causes! We are well on our way to reaching our target, but any further donations are welcome’, says Simon Dunn, store director of both West Bridgford and Nottingham.
Optical assistant Samantha Randall from the West Bridgford store commented, ‘The Robin Hood Marathon is such a huge community event in Nottingham, it’s great to be a part of it and we hope to raise a lot of money through individual fundraising.
‘We will then have a little break before we start training for the Spooky Sprint on Saturday 1 November. It’s all go at the moment but it’s for a great cause.’
