Specsavers North Finchley is the first local business to pledge its support to borough-wide charity Barnet Giving. The team recently held a bake sale to announce its on-going partnership with the charity, raising more than £200 for the cause.
Barnet Giving is a local initiative which aims to bring together local community groups, charities and businesses to build a better borough, to benefit everyone. The initiative provides time, skills and money to support local causes. Specsavers North Finchley store director and co-owner Ajay Patel said the team had decided to partner with Barnet Giving after learning about the different programmes it has helped to fund and run.
‘Barnet Giving seemed like the perfect fit when we were looking for a charity partner for our store because they really want to see this borough thrive. We’re very grateful for the North Finchley community in supporting us over the years and we wanted to do something to give back. Most importantly, we know our funds will stay in the local area.’
Over the last year funds raised for Barnet Giving have gone towards initiatives such as monthly skills workshops for young people in the area who are not currently in education or employment, a community plot with wheelchair-accessible walkways, and supplies to run a year’s worth of volunteer-run coffee mornings at Child’s Hill Library to help elderly people in the local area overcome social isolation.
While the team does not charge for glasses repairs, they are now encouraging their customers who use this service to make a small donation to Barnet Giving.
Barnet Giving co-ordinator Emma Hatfield, who was at the bake sale over the weekend, says: ‘We’re very grateful for Specsavers North Finchley joining us as our first official business supporter. The bake sale was such a success and really helped to spread the word about Barnet Giving.’
