The team at Specsavers Northampton are encouraging locals to come to the store for the chance to win big by entering a specs selfie in their competition. With the deadline for the national Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition fast approaching, the team in Abington Street, are putting on a show in store.

Take your best shot

On Saturday 18 June, the store will have its own photo stand for customers and passers-by to take their winning shots. By simply sharing a selfie before Sunday 3 July, glasses wearers in Northamptonshire could be in with a chance of winning a trip to New York and £10,000.

Kerrie Calcutt, assistant manager at Specsavers in Northampton, said: ‘This is the last chance for people in Northamptonshire to showcase their specs appeal to the whole country. We’ll have a dedicated area in store to encourage glasses wearers to upload a selfie at It couldn’t be easier.’

The competition has five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. A winner from each category will win a VIP makeover and will mingle with celebrities at a central London awards ceremony in October.

Anti-bullying campaign

Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date.

The competition is being championed by former Pussycat Doll and glamorous specs-wearer, Kimberly Wyatt, who says: ‘We’ve seen some fabulous entries so far. The great thing about this competition is no matter what your age or personal style, it’s all about rocking your specs with pride.’

‘I’ve worn glasses for years and it’s fun to be part of something that celebrates specs and the people who wear them. Plus it really is for a good cause, with Specsavers donating £1 to Kidscape for every eligible entry.’

The money raised from entries will help Kidscape provide training, support and advice to children, parents, schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.
