Holly Reid, a 20 year old student from Parkgate is about to enter her third year studying optometry at Cardiff University. She undertook a summer placement at Specsavers Abbeycentre to get some hands-on experience.
Putting theory into practice
Holly explains, ‘For the past two years my BSc course has focused on the theory of visual health and becoming familiar with all the equipment used in assessing patients. The opportunity to work in Specsavers added an invaluable practical element to that learning and really brought it to life.
I have really enjoyed my time here at Specsavers at the Abbeycentre and everyone in the store is so committed to my development and extremely helpful. I have learnt a lot from my time here at Specsavers and I’m looking forward to a career in optometry.’
Specsavers in touch with students
Specsavers store director Tony McGinn added, ‘We are delighted to host a placement student each summer. It allows us to get to know the students who are potentially our future employees. The programme is also an excellent way for us to give something back to the profession so it’s a win win all round.’
