Over 500 runners and walkers of all ages, abilities and fitness levels took to the paths and shores of Belfast Lough and Hazelbank Park, Newtownabbey to take part in the Specsavers Children’s Hospice Run Rabbit Run 5k and one-mile bunny hop.
Held each year on Easter Sunday, Specsavers in Abbeycentre has supported the competition for three years, providing financial backing to help manage the race and store staff also supply a range of special Specsavers goody bags for competitors crossing the finishing line.
In addition to participants taking part at Hazelbank Park, the event attracted a large number of virtual entries, with competitors ‘running’ anywhere in the world and receiving a finisher’s medal for their efforts.
Dispensing optician Darryl Marshall and optical assistant Aaron Howarth attended the fund -raising event to meet and greet race entrants and distribute finishers’ medals.
Congratulating Run Rabbit Run founder Martina Toal, store director Tony McGinn said: ‘It’s a pleasure to back this fabulous event which brings together families and friends as well as Hospice volunteers all in aid of a wonderful cause. Martina and her team once again did a fantastic job delivering a very smooth and hugely enjoyable event.
