A Newtown woman has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Wales as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Xara Theobald, aged 19, could win £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas if she wins, as well as a chance to mingle with the stars at the 20th annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Xara was invited to visit her local Specsavers store in Newtown to receive a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
‘I love my glasses’
Miss Theobald said: ‘I love wearing my glasses and wear them more often than I probably need to! I’m thrilled I’m a regional finalist for Wales and never expected to get this far when I entered the competition.’
‘Fantastic semi-finalist for Wales’
David Dunlop, store director of Specsavers in Newtown, said: ‘Xara really enjoys wearing her frames and we hope that her confidence will inspire other spectacle-wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘We think Xara is a fantastic semi-finalist for Wales, and all the team at Newtown wish her the very best of luck for the next round of judging for this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.’
The awards were launched by Spice Girls singer and Heart FM DJ Emma Bunton earlier this year. If she triumphs in her age category, Miss Theobald could meet Emma at the celeb-packed awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on Tuesday 6 October.
