Claire McCabe (27) from Warrenpoint has won a regional semi-finalist award in Specsavers’ 2016 Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. Claire was selected from hundreds of people across Northern Ireland and is in with a chance of winning £10,000 along with a luxury holiday for two to New York and a glasses wardrobe from Specsavers worth £1000.
Pussycat Doll backs awards
The awards were launched by former Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt earlier this year. If Claire wins through in her age category, she could meet Kimberly at a star-studded awards evening in London on 11 October.
Presenting Claire with her Spectacle Wearer of the Year prize package is Rory Fegan, store supervisor at Specsavers in Newry. The competition now in its 21st year, covers five age categories – 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s plus a facebook favourite voted for by the public.
Raises cash for charity Kidscape
For each Spectacle Wearer of the Year entry, Specsavers donated £1 to charity Kidscape adding to the £300,000 the campaign has raised for the charity over the last 6 years. The money raised will help Kidscape provide training, support and advice for children, parents and schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse in the UK.
