Specsavers opticians on Spytty Road in Newport have taken part in the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Ramp up the Red’ appeal with a red-themed fundraising day in store.
The Spytty Road team raised £83 in one day by wearing red head-to-toe, selling cakes decorated with red hearts and handing out red balloons to children in return for donations.
The British Heart Foundation’s annual ‘Ramp up the Red’ appeal encourages people to fundraise around a red theme, be it wearing red fancy dress, baking colourful cakes or taking part in exercise challenges to get you red in the face.

Jason Williams, director of Specsavers in Spytty Road, said: ‘Ramp up the Red is a fantastic campaign and was something that the team were really keen to support. We even decorated the store with heart-shaped bunting.
‘Heart and circulatory disease affects one in four people in the UK and the British Heart Foundation’s fun event is a brilliant way to raise awareness of heart health as well as vital funds for its life-saving research.
‘Our staff had great fun baking cakes and dressing up on the day; it was great to see our customers getting involved and I’d like to thank them for donating so generously.’
