Opticians in Newport have recently partnered up with a local pharmacy in Lliswerry to take part in a diabetes open day.
Specsavers’ diabetes services
Maggie Aizlewood, community champion of Specsavers in Spytty Road, handed out leaflets for free sight tests and spoke to members of the Newport community about the diabetes services available at Specsavers.
The event was set up in partnership with Lliswerry pharmacy to encourage people to think about their eye health as well as raise awareness of diabetes and its warning signs.
Delighted with partnership
Mrs Aizlewood said: ‘We’re delighted to have partnered with Lliswerry pharmacy for the event; it was a great opportunity to speak to local people about diabetes and raise awareness of the range of services that Specsavers offers.
‘Diabetes affects 3.2 million people in the UK and sight tests can be an important opportunity to identify the condition early on and treat it.
‘We have since welcomed a number of people that we met at the event into the store for a sight test, and hope it has helped to remind people of the importance of regular vision screening.’
