Nine bags of clothes, games, shoes and children’s toys have been collected by Specsavers on Spytty Road to raise money for Welsh children’s hospice, Tŷ Hafan.
‘Significant step’ towards goal
The items, including clothes and toys, were donated by staff and customers at the store. Tŷ Hafan has estimated that every bag of donated items to its retail stores is worth approximately £30, meaning that the donation could see around £270 of sales generated.
Maggie Aizlewood, community champion at Specsavers Spytty Road, says: ‘This was a new way for us to engage with staff and customers to raise money and everyone involved was really enthusiastic. As a retailer, we understand the importance of having quality goods to offer our customers.
‘We’re aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity by the end of the year and the success of this event was a significant step towards achieving that goal.’
The Spytty Road store, along with 36 other Specsavers stores in south and mid Wales, has been fundraising for Tŷ Hafan since September 2016.
Tŷ Hafan cares for life-limited children and young people, and provides vital support to their families, both within the hospice and through its community outreach programme. Since 1999, it has supported 689 children across Wales, 263 of which are currently under its care.
