A Newport pharmacy assistant has beaten hundreds of people to be named as a regional semi-finalist in Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Alison Orford, 46, is in with a chance of winning an all-expenses paid trip to New York along with £10,000 spending money.
Alison started wearing glasses four years ago and enjoys finding unique style frames.
Love wearing glasses
‘I posted a picture of myself on Facebook wearing my glasses and everyone said how lovely I looked, so when I saw the competition I thought why not enter,’ she explains.
‘If glasses make you feel confident then just wear them. I love wearing mine and enjoy shopping for new frames and finding retro styles that no one else has.’
She was invited to her local Specsavers stores on Spytty Road in Newport and presented with a bottle of champagne, a semi-finalist certificate and a £150 voucher to spend at the store.
Newport store director, Jason Williams, says: ‘It is great that Alison is really happy with her frames and loves to wear them. We hope that her confidence will inspire other spectacle wearers to don their glasses with pride.
‘On behalf of everyone at the Spytty Road store, I’d like to congratulate Alison on getting this far in the competition.’
The 2016 awards were launched earlier this year by singer and dancer Kimberly Wyatt. For each entry made, £1 has been donated to Kidscape, the anti-bullying charity.
