The team at the Newport store have beaten stiff competition to win an award at the inaugural South Wales Argus Business Awards.
Specsavers Austin Friars was named ‘Best BID National Business’ at the ceremony, which took place at the Newport Centre and organised by the newspaper, in conjunction with Newport Now BID (Business Improvement District) - an organisation supporting business growth in Newport.
‘Winning this award is a huge achievement for all of us,’ says Jason Williams, director of the Austin Friars store. ‘We were up against some well-known national brands, so we’re thrilled that the judges recognised just how much we support Newport locals.
‘This includes our six-figure investment into state-of-the-art technology and creation of ‘shared care’ initiatives with health boards, such as our partnership with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The led us to launch the Austin Friars Eye Treatment Centre to support people suffering with Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration – the first centre of its kind in the UK.’
This is not the first taste of award success for the Austin Friars store - in 2017, the team was crowned ‘Multiple Practice of the Year’ at the Optician Awards and also took home the ‘Special Award in Clinical Excellence’ at Specsavers’ national award ceremony. It was also named as a finalist in the ‘Customer Service’ category of the South Wales Argus Business Awards.
Mr Williams adds: ‘I’d like to thank everyone in-store for the hard work they put in each day to provide a great service to our customers – without them, we wouldn’t have been in the running for this award, let alone win it.’
