As part of a fundraising day for Tŷ Hafan children’s hospice, the Newport team treated customers to a marvellous surprise by donning superhero costumes.
Popular characters and delicious treats
Iron Man, Batman, Minions and Minnie Mouse all made an appearance at the Specsavers on Austin Friars as part of the store’s fancy dress capers, which helped to raise more than £130 for the charity. Courtesy of local bakery, Lotties Little Luxuries, customers were also treated to homemade cakes and other sweet baked goods in exchange for a donation to the charity.
Raffle tickets contributed to the final fundraising total, with family-focused prizes including children’s books, character-based toys and childhood memorabilia.
Continued efforts for charity
Since the launch of its partnership with Tŷ Hafan last year, the store has raised £705.56 for the children’s charity.
Team leader at the store, Clare Baker, says: ‘So many customers and passers-by wanted to stop and support our fundraising efforts which is testament to the fantastic work the charity does for families across Wales. We are proud to be supporting Tŷ Hafan as our chosen charity this year.
‘We wanted to do something children could get involved in because it’s the summer holidays, but also because, ultimately, this money will help support other young children in our community. We’re grateful to everyone who dug deep to make it such a huge success.’
Tŷ Hafan provides free care and support to life-limited children and young people in Wales, as well as their families – both at the hospice and in the community. Specsavers stores across mid and south Wales are carrying out a year of fundraising activities for the organisation.
