Specsavers staff on the High Street, Newport have joined forces with local Jamaican restaurant, Dutchy’s, to raise more than £600 for for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
The event saw 40 guests come together to enjoy an evening of food, entertainment, an auction and raffle, at the North Street restaurant.
Five-month fundraising campaign
This is the second charity event the store has hosted this year in aid of contact lens practitioner Lee Draper’s five-month fundraising campaign for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Mr Draper said: ‘After the tragic loss of a close friend, I set myself the challenge of raising £1,500 for a charity that is very important to me.
I’ve been very lucky to have the backing from my colleagues at Specsavers, and delighted to have already raised over half of my fundraising target in just two events. It’s great to be raising awareness and money for a fantastic cause.’
Mr Draper will also be taking part in a sponsored walk from London to Brighton on Saturday 23 May, with donations being collected at the High Street Specsavers store.
Event to remember
Jason Williams, store director at Specsavers in Newport, said: ‘Lee’s campaign to fundraise for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in honour of his close friend is something that the whole team have been keen to support. Customers, colleagues and local businesses have all helped to fundraise for such a humbling cause.
We’d like to thank all the staff at Dutchy’s who volunteered their time; it really was a fundraising event to remember.
